There are no formal steps to follow to be saved as it is what you believe in your heart that matters. Salvation is not found in religion or works, but in a Person…the Lord Jesus Christ! You need to understand that your sin separates you from God and that He will judge you when you face Him on the day of judgment. If you confess that you are a sinner, deserving Hell and believe that Jesus Christ died to pay for your sins and that He rose again then you can be saved.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)
Jesus said that you need to be born again to enter into the kingdom of God:
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3)
This means becoming a new creation which happens when you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour:
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17)
You need to trust on the completed work of Christ in your place on the cross and in His bodily resurrection, thereby defeating death and making you acceptable in God’s sight. This is all you need to believe, to be born again and for the Holy Spirit dwell in you and become born again. This is where your relationship with God begins!
So, how do you call on the Lord? With a simple prayer. You can pray with whatever words you feel are appropriate, but maybe something like this:
Always pray in Jesus’ name as Jesus is the only way to talk to the Father. Here are some Bible verses concerning salvation:
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6)
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved . For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:9-10)
And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day (John 6:40)
Now that you are saved, you are born again and you need to turn from your sins and life for Christ and for His glory. It is important to read the Bible regularly to learn about Jesus and keep in a close relationship with the Lord. Everything you see and hear should always be tested against Scripture as this should be your only authority.
Giving your life to Christ produces a spiritual change so do not be overly concerned if there are no dramatic emotional feelings straight away but be reassured that the angels in heaven are rejoicing for you the moment you made that commitment:
Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth (Luke 15:10)
